Take Me Home Tuesday: Skylar

I have a soft spot for the senior boys, especially ones with minor medical issues. Which is just one reason I am in love with Skylar! Senior cats (generally cats 8 or over) are harder to adopt than young cats, as are cats with medical issues. So poor Skylar had the deck stacked against him, until Precious Pets Almost Home came along and rescued him. He is in a good place now, but would love a forever home of his own!

Skylar is a 10-year-old Himalayan boy currently residing in a foster home at Precious Pets Almost Home here in Chicago. He is due to be transferred to a cage at the adoption center in PetSmart soon, but would do much better being adopted straight from his foster home to his forever home! After all, he already faced life in a cage briefly before coming to Precious Pets, and life in a cage is never as comfortable as a home. Skylar was abandoned at Chicago Animal Care and Control by his former family before he was pulled by Precious Pets. Did you notice what a gorgeous cat Skylar is? He is a sweet boy too! He would do well as an only cat or with a very quiet companion cat.

Skylar would be considered a special needs cat, as he has a grade 3 heart murmur. His thyroid levels are normal, so that is ruled out as a cause for his heart murmur. My own boy has a heart murmur (as a result of hyperthyroid) and has lived with it for many years. There is nothing to indicate that Skylar won’t also live for many years. Precious Pets is working to raise funds for a cardiac ultrasound to find out just what Skylar’s heart looks like. They know it must be a big heart, with all the love he gives.

About Precious Pets Almost Home

Precious Pets Almost Home is an all volunteer, foster based rescue organization in Chicago. They care for cats and dogs, taking in from Animal Care and Control as well as admitting cats and dogs found on the streets. There are a number of benefits to adopting an animal from a foster home, including the ability to get to know the animal’s personality before adopting them. Foster parents will know all the personality traits and quirks of the animals in their care. You will also get a better sense of the animals’ personality as they get to relax in a home in a way they wouldn’t be able to if they were in a traditional shelter.

Precious Pets has also partnered with PetSmart  in West Lincoln Park to have some of their cats featured in the Adoption Center at 2665 N. Elston.   You can reach Precious Pets Almost Home at 773- 250-7141 or by e-mailing ppahchgo4u at yahoo.com. Be sure to check out their website and their Facebook page for more information about them and their adoption policies.
